European Environment Information and Observation Network

On this web page, you can find information and news about the Belgian coordination of the European Environment Information and Observation Network (Eionet) of the European Environment Agency (EEA) by the National Focal Points (NFPs).

What is Eionet?

Eionet (European Environment Information and Observation Network) is a partnership between the European Environment Agency (EEA) and its 38 member states and cooperating countries. The EEA and Eionet collect and develop data, knowledge, and advice for policymakers on the environment in Europe.

Eionet consists of the EEA and approximately 400 national institutions from 38 countries with expertise in environmental issues, as well as eight thematic centers of expertise contracted by the EEA, known as European Topic Centers (ETCs).

Coordination by the Belgian NFP team

In each Member State, one or more National Focal Points (NFPs) have been appointed to form the primary link between the EEA and the country. The NFPs facilitate and coordinate the network of national experts involved in national activities related to the EEA work program. In Belgium, the Eionet network consists of more than 300 experts active in various themes.

The Belgian NFP-team is hosted by IRCEL/CELINE. Find more information on the cooperation agreement here.
